Wildcore Retreats · Sierra Calderona, Spain
A small-scale weekend for active people who want to experience more and perform less.
For us, trail running isn't about speed or competition. It's about being outdoors, moving in nature, and noticing what happens once you step away from the rush of everyday life.
In the Sierra Calderona we run by feel. No strict schedule, no focus on times or performance. We stop where it's beautiful, look out over the valley, take a photo, or simply stand still in nature for a moment.
Trail run or hike? The choice is yours. You choose a trail running weekend or a hiking weekend in advance. That way you experience the whole weekend with a group that shares the same pace and the same activity. Whether you love to run or would rather take in the scenery on foot, the experience always comes first. We stay together as a group.
"Not performing. Experiencing."
This weekend is meant for active people who love being outdoors. You can join as a trail runner or as a hiker. No experience is required, but a good base level of fitness is important. We therefore ask trail runners to be able to run comfortably for at least an hour and a half, and hikers to be able to walk for at least three hours on hilly terrain.
The group has a maximum of six participants. It's exactly this small scale that allows for personal guidance, attention for everyone and a relaxed atmosphere.
Whether you come on your own or with someone else, you are very welcome. Together we'll make it a sporty, relaxed and inspiring weekend, with nature, movement and good company at its heart.
Not about performing, but about experiencing it together.

You'll be staying in my detached villa in El Pinar, a quiet spot in the middle of nature with a pool, spacious terraces and views of the mountains. The neighbourhood itself lies about half an hour inland from Valencia, surrounded by orange groves — wonderfully fragrant blossom in spring and bright orange fruit later in the year. The perfect place to fully unwind after a day on the trails.

We run through breathtaking landscapes: fragrant pine forests, rolling mountain trails and surprising little paths you'd never find on your own. Every route has its own atmosphere and pace.

The highlight: your first confident trail run through the Spanish landscape. With viewpoints over ravines, valleys and rock formations that stay with you long after you're back home.

A perfect combination of physical challenge, relaxation and connection. After the trails: good food, good conversation, and time to enjoy each other's company. All of it is entirely optional. If you'd rather have some time to yourself once you're back at the villa, feel free to do your own thing. There's room for both.

Mountain trails through pine forest, canyons with running water and a villa with views of the mountains. Tap any photo to view it full size.
Each day has its own character, from a gentle start to the highlight of the weekend and a relaxed recovery loop to enjoy the afterglow.
Friday
A relaxed start. We explore the trails around Casinos and get a feel for the terrain. The perfect first loop to loosen up the legs, discover the surroundings and get to know each other.
You can pick a flight that lands at Valencia Airport around 13:00. Would you rather arrive earlier? You can also take an early morning flight or even come a day ahead. That gives you plenty of time to explore Valencia on your own and enjoy its lively atmosphere, beautiful squares and excellent restaurants. The trip officially starts with the group transfer. If you're joining it, make sure you're back at the airport around 13:00 so we can head to our destination together.
You arrive at the villa in El Pinar, where you can settle in at your own pace. Take your time to meet the other participants, enjoy a light lunch on the terrace and let the journey fall away.
We open the weekend with a relaxed trail run around Casinos. A beautiful route over rolling paths and through pine forests, at an easy pace with plenty of time for the first views.
After the trail we sit down to a healthy, flavourful meal. A relaxed evening to get to know each other better.
Saturday
The heart of the weekend: a longer route through breathtaking landscapes and past viewpoints you won't soon forget. Walking is always allowed.
We start the day with a generous, nourishing breakfast so everyone has enough energy for the finest trail of the weekend.
The impressive route through the Sierra Calderona, over varied mountain paths, through fragrant pine forests and past spectacular viewpoints. Along the way we take time for photos and lunch together out in nature.
Time to unwind: a refreshing dip in the pool, a book on the terrace, or simply the quiet and the view over the mountains.
Another healthy, flavourful meal and a relaxed evening, looking ahead to tomorrow's trail.
Sunday
A calmer finish along ravines and waterfalls, with plenty of time to soak it all in before heading home.
One more breakfast together before we head into the mountains for a relaxed close to the weekend.
A varied route through the Sierra Calderona where we enjoy the quiet, the nature and the wide views one last time.
Back at the villa we close the weekend with a convivial lunch on the terrace. A lovely moment to share experiences and savour it all.
After a weekend full of nature, sport, relaxation and new encounters we say goodbye, with fresh energy, inspiration and perhaps a new love for trail running.
During this weekend you won't stay in a hotel, but in an atmospheric, detached villa that feels like a home away from home, in the quiet urbanisation of El Pinar, right next to the authentic village of Casinos.
The villa sits amid greenery with views over the mountains of the Sierra Calderona. After a day on the trails you unwind by the pool, on the terrace or in the garden. Inside, it's all about a warm, homely atmosphere: coffee in the morning, stories after the trail run, and healthy, wholesome meals without any rush.
My name is Maurizio Salazar and I live for part of the year in the beautiful surroundings of Casinos, at the foot of the Sierra Calderona.
By profession I'm a sports and shiatsu therapist, and I've been fascinated by movement, health and the power of nature my whole life. Sport has always played an important role for me. Whether it's running, trail running, hiking or any other kind of movement, I believe being active is good not only for the body but for the mind as well.
Through my work I'm in daily contact with people who want to live healthier, stronger and with more energy. It shows me again and again how important it is to step out of your daily routine now and then and make time for yourself.
Nature has always been the place where I recharge. In the mountains of the Sierra Calderona I find calm, freedom and adventure. That feeling is what I want to share with others.
Out of that passion came the idea of organising small-scale trail running weekends. Not a performance-driven sports trip, but an accessible experience where movement, nature, relaxation and connection take centre stage.
I'd like to invite you to discover the trails, the surroundings and the relaxed Spanish way of life. Together we enjoy beautiful routes, healthy meals, good conversation and the unique atmosphere of my home in El Pinar.
— Maurizio

A maximum of six participants per weekend. With fewer than four sign-ups a weekend does not go ahead; you will hear from us no later than four weeks in advance.
The most important practical information at a glance. The full terms and conditions are further below.
Open to anyone aged 18 or over with a good base level of fitness. We therefore ask trail runners to be able to run comfortably for at least an hour and a half, and hikers to be able to walk for at least three hours on hilly terrain. You are responsible for assessing your own physical condition and health. The group is kept deliberately small, so there's room for personal attention.
Accommodation at the villa, 2x breakfast, 3x lunch and 2x dinner, coffee, tea and water, airport transfer to and from Valencia Airport, transfers and guidance on every trail run or hike.
During the trail running weekend you stay in our characterful villa in El Pinar, surrounded by the nature of Casinos. You sleep in a shared twin room or, if you prefer to be closer to nature, in a comfortable glamping tent among the pine trees, also suitable for two people.
Whether you choose the villa or the glamping tent, you'll enjoy a calm, homely setting where relaxation, comfort and nature come together. A wonderful place to fully recharge after a day on the trails.
A valid basic travel insurance policy is required to join our trips. Check your policy conditions carefully in advance to see whether mountain walking and mountain trails are covered. If they are not, you'll need to arrange additional cover yourself.
Additional baggage insurance, cancellation insurance or other extra cover is not required. Taking these out is a personal choice and the participant's own responsibility.
We'd like to receive a copy of each participant's insurance policy sheet before the trip begins, so we can check that the insurance requirement has been met.
Tip: if in doubt, contact your insurer to verify that the activities during the trip, such as mountain walking, are fully covered.
If you cancel your participation, the following costs apply, calculated from the departure date:
| Up to 8 weeks before departure | €50 administration fee |
| 8 to 4 weeks before departure | 50% of the trip price |
| 4 to 2 weeks before departure | 75% of the trip price |
| Within 14 days before departure | 100% of the trip price |
No refund of the trip price is given for early termination of the weekend, failure to show up on the departure date, or failure to meet the compulsory travel insurance requirement. Up to two days before departure you may nominate a replacement participant free of charge, provided this is reported in advance and approved by the organisation. For cancellation or early termination for personal reasons, you can choose to take out cancellation insurance in addition to your travel insurance, so you can cover this financial risk.
Routes, activities or parts of the programme may be adjusted due to weather conditions, wildfire risk, local regulations or other safety considerations.
If the organisation cancels the weekend in advance due to force majeure or safety reasons, you'll receive the full trip price back. The cost of your travel to and from Valencia is not part of the trip price and is not reimbursed by the organisation. To limit this risk, we advise you to book a flexible ticket, or one that allows a date change, where possible.
Flight cancellations, delays and other travel disruptions beyond the organisation's control are not the organisation's responsibility, whatever the cause. This includes strikes, extreme weather, technical failures, traffic problems and situations where a participant cannot reach the airport in time. If you arrive late, we'll still arrange an airport transfer where reasonably possible, scheduled so that the other participants are inconvenienced as little as possible.
No later than four weeks before departure we determine whether there are enough participants for the weekend to go ahead. The minimum group size is four participants. If there are too few, the weekend is cancelled. This gives participants as much certainty as possible about the weekend going ahead before they book their flight, barring force majeure and unforeseen circumstances.
These terms and conditions apply to all multi-day outdoor weekends organised by Wildcore Retreats, including trail running weekends, hiking weekends and comparable activities.
By registering, the participant confirms that they have read and agree to these terms and conditions.
If participation is cancelled, the following cancellation charges apply, calculated from the departure date:
No refund of the trip price is given for early termination of the weekend, failure to show up on the departure date, or failure to meet the travel insurance requirement.
Up to two days before departure the participant may nominate a replacement participant free of charge, provided this is reported in advance and approved by the organisation.
For cancellation or early termination for personal reasons, taking out cancellation insurance is recommended.
The organiser reserves the right to cancel the weekend in the event of:
No later than four weeks before departure it is determined whether there are enough participants for the weekend to go ahead. The minimum number of participants per group is four.
This gives participants as much certainty as possible about the weekend going ahead before they book their flight, barring force majeure and other unforeseen circumstances.
If the organisation cancels the weekend in advance due to force majeure or safety reasons, the full trip price is refunded. The cost of travel to and from Valencia, travel insurance, cancellation insurance and other personal expenses are not part of the trip price and are not reimbursed by the organisation.
Routes, activities, times and other parts of the programme may be adjusted if circumstances require it. This includes, among others:
The organiser aims to keep any changes to a minimum, without compromising the quality and safety of the weekend.
The participant is responsible for booking their own transport to and from Valencia.
Flight cancellations, delays and other travel disruptions beyond the organisation's control are not the organisation's responsibility, whatever the cause. This includes strikes, extreme weather, technical failures, traffic problems and situations in which a participant cannot reach the airport in time.
In the event of a delayed arrival, the organisation will still arrange an airport transfer where reasonably possible. This is scheduled so that the other participants are inconvenienced as little as possible.
Trail running, hiking, mountain walking and other outdoor activities carry inherent risks. Participation is entirely at your own risk. The organiser is not liable for:
unless there is intent or gross negligence on the part of the organiser. The participant remains responsible for their own actions at all times.
A valid basic travel insurance policy is required in order to take part.
The participant must check carefully in advance whether the activities offered during the weekend — such as trail running, hiking, mountain walking and mountain trails — are covered by their travel insurance. If necessary, the participant must arrange additional cover themselves.
Baggage insurance, cancellation insurance and other additional policies are not compulsory and are the participant's own responsibility.
The organisation would like to receive a copy of each participant's insurance policy sheet before the weekend begins.
Every participant is expected to:
The organiser may exclude a participant from further participation, without refund of the trip price, if their behaviour endangers the safety, health or wellbeing of the group.
Photos and videos may be taken during the weekend for promotional purposes.
If a participant objects to this, they must inform the organisation in writing before the weekend begins.
Personal data is processed solely for the organisation and running of the booked weekend and is not shared with third parties without consent, unless this is necessary to perform the agreement or follows from a legal obligation.
Force majeure means any situation beyond the organiser's reasonable control, including but not limited to:
In such situations the programme may be adjusted, moved or cancelled without the organiser being obliged to reimburse any costs other than the trip price already paid, insofar as permitted by law.
These terms and conditions and all agreements between Wildcore Retreats and the participant are governed exclusively by Dutch law.
Disputes arising from or connected with this agreement will be submitted to the competent court in the district where Wildcore Retreats is established, unless mandatory legal provisions state otherwise.
