Hiking in Valencia: the mountains behind the city
Valencia is best known for its city and beaches, but the best hiking is inland. The Sierra Calderona, a protected natural park since 2002, has pine and cork-oak forests, red sandstone rock, old paths and viewpoints where you can see all the way to the Mediterranean on a clear day.
On a Wildcore hiking weekend everything is taken care of. We pick you up at the airport, you stay in a villa with a pool, we eat together and each day you hike a different route with a guide. It is not about speed. It is about being outside and slowing down.
Who is this hiking retreat for?
Anyone aged 18+ in reasonable shape who can hike for at least three hours on hilly terrain. You do not need to be an experienced mountain hiker. Because each weekend is either a hiking or a trail running weekend, the whole group moves at the same pace.
The three routes of the weekend
Casinos Discovery Loop
8 km · ±180 m gain
An easy first loop on the trails around Casinos, through pine forest and rolling mountain paths.
Serra Calderona Grand Loop
20–23 km · ±850 m gain
The big day: a long route through the Sierra Calderona past viewpoints, with lunch out in nature.
Rebalsadors Recovery Loop
13–15 km · ±500 m gain
A gentler finish past gorges and waterfalls, then lunch on the terrace and the airport transfer.
The hiking weekend follows the same three-day structure in the same area, at walking pace. Distances may vary per edition due to weather, wildfire risk or safety. Feel free to ask for details.

Why a hiking weekend in winter?
The hiking weekends take place in December and March, when inland Valencia is usually sunny and mild enough for comfortable hiking. In summer it is often too hot for long days on the trail. A long weekend is enough: fly in on Friday morning, be home on Sunday night.
